About Koda - OK | |
|
|
Koda is a very sweet, loving, and social Malinois to both people and other dogs and she has a good off switch for her age. She gets along great with her foster brother, like most large breed pups she does play a bit rough. She has only growled at him when she is tired and is bothered during her nap which is easily corrected with a “no.” Koda has been around him, an older grouchy spayed female, and a 4 month old puppy while her play is rough and needs monitored with a small dog, she responds well with “no” and “easy” and backs off when the older dog wants space. She has not met a human she didn’t like, even total strangers are instantly her friend.
Koda is making great strides in her obedience training having had very little when she came to us. Her basic obedience commands have been started in Dutch; she does occasionally respond to English commands when given to her foster brother so she could be switched over fairly easily. She is a pleasure to take on a walk or a visit to lower activity level stores like a farm store or Lowe’s. Pet stores are still a little overwhelming with the commotion and other dogs that she just wants to play with. She typically goes out and about with a prong collar which she is excited to see it as she knows she gets to do something! She is extremely quick to learn anything that has been taught to her.
Koda is a great sport or work prospect, especially for tracking or SAR. She has a great desire to please and is both food and toy motivated. When hiking with her fosters, she naturally puts her nose down to track deer and other animal trails while on a check cord (and stays with the same trail until pulled off). She truly enjoys anything that means she gets to spend time with her people.
Her only downfall is that she has anxiety when left alone in a crate. She can escape a wire crate, but when she was loose in the house she was not destructive. Her fosters would be adopting her if they had the schedules to start her crate training from scratch. She is housebroken, even when loose all night sleeping in bed with her fosters, and is a pleasure to have in the house.
Koda travels well in the car and is very good with older children. She is not good with cats because of her typical Malinois prey drive. A very healthy puppy girl just looking for an active home that has time to spend with her.
