Ammy would be a great starter sport dog for someone who enjoys the drive and the fun of a Malinois.

Pros

  Super sweet, people social. Loves attention but not overly velcro. Fairly independent, happy to self entertain (for better or worse, ya know, malinois)

  Dog friendly as far as we’ve seen. Living with an intact male and two altered females. We haven’t tested beyond our personal dogs but with proper intros and management on the front end I expect she’d be fine. 

  Med-High food drive, Med-High ball drive

  Environmentally stable - environmentally the same dog I met at the shelter when picked her up. Happy to go check everything out, run through tunnels, climb on things - doesn’t care. No self preservation because, ya know, Malinois

  Has a nice obedience foundation, prong and ecollar conditioned. Spent almost three months with Alicia at Fulton Strong Canine.

  Loves to jump off a dock (she’s no Michael Phelps with the actual swimming but she does enjoy the water)

  Loves to play frisbee

Cons

❌ Surrendered for biting her previous owners (for collar grabs to throw her into the crate). We’ve worked through her issues with pressure with things like the crate, nails and general handling but recommend a home with no kids and that the skill set be maintained.

❌ Crate trained but when she kicks into drive while crated she will sometimes pee or poop in the crate. I think in a home where she’s getting more attention and work this issue might disappear completely ❌ High prey drive (not a con for me) but I would not trust her unsupervised with small animals. Livestock would take exposure but could be taught.
