About Addy - MD | |
|
|
Addy is a 4 year old spayed female who came into rescue after being seized by Baltimore City Animal Control along with her 8 puppies and the father. They were living in conditions not even suitable for a street rat. She was chained in a yard without any mental stimulation. This deprived her and her puppies of the social interaction that is crucial for any dog's success along with proper care and water. Despite their terrible start in life before rescue, all of her puppies healed and found wonderful adopters. It's Addy's turn now!
Addy has spent several months learning how to trust people and be a good girl when meeting new people. She is very food motivated and loves to learn new things. Cheese is a favorite and Addy will be your best friend for cheese! She continues to take a while to warm up to strangers due to her past life, but has come such a long way!. She is a very Velcro dog and would benefit from someone who is home during the day as kenneling is very stressful for her. Due to her crate anxiety, we have been leaving her free in our home when we go out. She is left out with our 2 year old male and does great! She does not get into anything while left alone.
Addy just recently went camping with us and did outstanding! She rides very well in the car and loves to be with her person. On our trip, she met many breed savvy people and did very well approaching people for attention.
To set Addy up for continued success, we ask that approved adopters be willing to do a few Meet and Greet sessions before placement. We are located in Edgewood, MD and are willing to drive up to 2 hours one way to meet up with any potential adopters. I will not put her on transport as she is a flight risk with strangers. We are willing to make any accommodations to help Addy find the best forever home possible.
Addy continues to learn obedience and impulse control and is doing very well. She has been exposed to FastCat and has done one "Fun Run". She did well with supervision in a stimulating environment.
Addy is an alpha female and would thrive in a home with a male her age or younger. She has been around other breeds and medium sized dogs and has done well. She has a strong prey drive and will not be placed in a home where small, quick animals could be put at risk.
Addy loves to chase my dogs as they run for the ball, but she is not ball motivated unless other dogs are playing. She loves the Jolly Ball and runs around with it in her mouth. Her herding instincts come out when overstimulated by quick moving objects. She will not be placed with small children as a result of this. Children 8 and over would be fine as she interacts with our Grandchildren who are over 8 and understand how to take it slow around her.
Breed or working dog experience is preferred.
