Jojo is a beautiful 2 year old, elegant female currently located in Pennsylvania.  She will be spayed prior to being adopted.

Jojo's story could have ended tragically if it had not been for the wonderful people that stepped up to save her.  You can read about her survival story below.

JoJo is very sweet and loves to cuddle and to get belly rubs. She is adorable and has the best tilty-head ever ❤️!   She also does the best Froggie position (another testament to the great care she has received that she can bend into this position).  She is not only photogenic, she loves to have her picture taken.

Jojo is brilliant and loves to train.  She is VERY food motivated so training is a lot of fun with her.  Her foster mom has worked with Jojo on manners at the door, patience, waiting for her food, leash skills, keeping 4 paws on the floor, gaining confidence, and other basic obedience. Jojo is a wonderful student!

It doesn’t appear that Jojo was exposed to a lot of things in her previous life as she can sometimes be a bit nervous when in a new environment, but with the help and expertise of her foster mom, she is gaining confidence and learning how to be relaxed in new situations. 

When she first came to her foster home, she didn’t show any interest in toys or know what they were but she has started to learn to play with toys and is having big fun!

She is good with other dogs.  Due to her prey drive she will not be placed in a home with cats or small animals nor with small children.

Jojo has been through so much – we want to find her the most special, loving forever home.

Jojo's survival story:

Jojo was found on the side of the road by a good Samaritan.  Jojo had been hit by a car and left to die.  The good Samaritan rushed Jojo to the ER vet where they worked to stabilize her. Jojo was in shock, had internal bleeding, and was unable to walk. The good Samaritan had left a deposit of several thousand dollars but emergency care is incredibly expensive and that deposit was consumed very quickly.  The ER vet called ABMR to see if we could help and ABMR agreed to take her into rescue. 

The vets only gave Jojo a 'fair' chance to pull through because they were struggling to get her internal bleeding under control.  But Jojo's bright spirit and drive to survive prevailed and she started to respond to treatment.  The vets then realized that she had a back injury which at first was thought to be a sacral fracture but thank goodness that turned out not to be the case.  She had a narrowing at the thoracic lumbar region in her spine which was making it painful for her to move. She was struggling to pee and poop normally but the vets felt it might be due to her pain.  

The vets worked to effectively manage Jojo's pain and this resulted in her being able to pee and poop normally at which point they said she could be released to go to a temporary foster home where she would continue her care and prepare for transport to her medical foster home so that rescue could work with vets to understand Jojo's long-term prognosis and treatment. 

When Jojo first came to her current foster, she was not able to sit comfortably even when under pain management and she would not use one of her back legs and her gait was very rough when she would walk or try to run.  She was very hunched over - right at the thoracic lumbar region of her back.  The vet reviewed x-rays and decided that it was best to take a conservative approach to treatment.  The focus would be on working to improve Jojo's muscles and  flexibility instead of doing surgery. 

Jojo's foster put in many hours working with Jojo, doing physical therapy and exercises to work her muscles. She also took her to the vet for cold laser therapy sessions.  Jojo's nutrition was also a priority.  All of this hard work and expert, loving care has made such an incredible difference - Jojo is now thriving and moves so much more beautifully and without any sign of pain or discomfort!!

It took a village but what an amazing transformation: the good Samaritan that saved Jojo, all of the vets that have worked so hard to keep her alive and to support her recovery, the awesome volunteer that went to see Jojo in the ER and transported her to her temp foster, her wonderful temp foster who took great care of her when she was straight out of the ER, a long-haul transporter that drove all the way from Ohio to Oklahoma to get her and bring her to Pennsylvania so that she didn't have to go on a traditional transport that would have been difficult due to her mobility and pain issues, her current foster mom who has made enormous strides not only in Jojo's physical health but also her ability to live a rich life because of the life skills she has gained, to her 'aunt' who has visited her, posted updates and photos of Jojo to give her some much needed PR and finally to our amazing ABMR family that supported Jojo through donations and positive thoughts and prayers.  She is a very lucky girl!
