Roxie – 3-Year Old Female Malinois in Connecticut

Roxie is looking for an adoptive home or a foster to adopt home.  She is a 3-year old female who will be spayed in her foster home.  She is up to date on her shots and heartworm negative.

Roxie is a big, active girl and weighs about 55 pounds.  She is exuberant and needs to learn manners.  She is housebroken and apparently good in the apartment of her owner when left alone.   Roxie is friendly with people and children (ages 10 and up only as she is big and bouncy) .  She has been tested several dogs – male and female – and has always been reactive.  For this reason, Roxie must go to a home where she is the only pet.  The foster or adoptive home would be encouraged to work with her on her interactions with male dogs her own size as it is possible that she may improve with careful exposure.  Roxie also has high prey drive for squirrels and small animals so cannot be placed in a home with cats or small animals.

She is an active girl who benefits from hour-long walks and exercise. She loves car rides and can be left in the car without tearing anything up or getting into trouble.  She settles calmly in the house and likes balls, sticks and tug, but I would not call her a dog with super-high ball drive.  She is not noise sensitive and appears to have good nerves.  Roxie would do best in a home with a large, fenced yard, or with a person who will exercise with daily walks and runs, being cognizant that she may be aggressive with female dogs and small dogs.  (There is some feeling that this issue may be tempered and/or resolved when she is spayed but we cannot assume that this will be the case.)

We also do NOT know if Roxie can be crated as the person who has her now has never tried acclimating her to a crate.  Roxie appears to be a good girl who is attached to the person who is currently caring for her and does try to please.  She needs careful oversight in her interactions with other dogs as well as guidance; training and eventual placement.

A photo and a video are included. Can you give this girl a chance to develop her full potential as a loving companion? Time is of the essence for Roxie as it is uncertain as to how much longer her current home can keep her.   If you would like to help give Roxie a chance by fostering her, please contact Hedy Barton (HedyL@aol.com).
