This is Colt, a 3 1/2 year old Belgian Malinois that was found on the streets of Orlando about a year ago. The officer that responded to a call about a lost dog had to bring Colt to the shelter to see if any owners were looking for him but of course no one showed. He was 55 pounds, highly positive for heart worms, and had a skin condition. He was in bad shape physically and needed some help with obedience and training. The wonderful officer and his wife rescued Colt and have done a wonderful job putting him through heart worm treatment and getting him ready for a forever home. He LOVES people and getting pet He is neutered, heart worm free, and just got his vaccines updated. He’s been on monthly preventative every month that we have had him. He gets along well with bigger dogs or dogs his size with a proper introduction and if the dog is not overly dominant and pushy. He’s fine with both males and females. He gets very nervous and snappy with dogs that try to push his boundaries and are obnoxious and rude. His fosters have been socializing him and realized that he is VERY uncomfortable around small kids. He did have a bad experience where a child stepped on his tail and hurt him. He’s been around kids 13 years + and does fine with them as long as they aren’t crazy around him. He is sooo obedient and loves to please his person. He eye contact is out of this world lol! And he is so so smart. He’s very well crate trained, potty trained, and has pretty decent leash manners. He knows a bunch of different commands. I’ve taught him him heel, middle, crate (which I use for place), sit, down, spin, front, bring (this is for his toys to bring to you), leave it, around, drop it, and can be taught so much more. He has a great drive for food. He is obsessed with food and will do anything for it. He’s not super toy driven but does chase the ball for a few throws and loves tug. Tug is his favorite and has a great grip. He does good with bathes, grooming, and getting his nails cut. He does hate water but will tolerate baths. He’ll lick your hand the whole time you’re doing his nails. I usually have him lay down on his side for nails. He has an insane prey drive… so no cats, small dogs, or any small animals. He does NOT like to be picked up without a muzzle on. You could probably work with him on getting use to it but I haven’t had time to get him use to it. He’s a great dog but because of his past he does still have some things to work on. Outside he’s can be nervous and just wants to be around his person and that’s probably because he was abandoned and a stray for quite some time. He may be rusty with obedience and does still need some socialization. He’s happy doing anything even though he’s nervous as long as he’s with his person like I’ve said. His ideal family would be someone or a couple that does not have small kids and is active and has time to work with him as he loves to work. Someone who goes on hikes or walks often and has time for the endless pets he wants lol. He could have another dog in the family as long as the dog is confident but neutral and not dominant or pushy. He has so much capability to be an even more incredible dog than he already is. Colt is in Orlando Florida and any potential adopter will need to be within 1000 miles and willing to drive at least 500 if not more. Anyone interested should reach out to Kelli Fort-Williamson or Brandy Whiddon
